COUN 790 TOPICS IN COUNSELOR EDUCATION

ETHICAL and PROFESSIONAL ISSUES

 

Fall 2009

Monday 5:00-7:30PM

Instructor: Dr. Sue Norton

Prerequisite: Intro course (COUN700, COUN702 or COUN704) or

 Permission of Instructor

 

          This course will explore the following topics:

·        Professional Codes of Ethics (especially the 2005 ACA Code)

·        Ethical Decision Making

·        Values and the Helping Relationship

·        Multicultural and Diversity Issues

·        Client Rights and Counselor Responsibilities

·        Confidentiality

·        Managing Boundaries and Multiple Relationships

·        Professional Competence

·        Issues in Supervision and Consultation

·        Issues in Theory, Practice and Research

 

The course will be held in a seminar format. Instructional modalities will include self-assessment and reflection, case studies, group discussions, application assignments, and a final paper.
